MS Society

April 20, 2008

I have a cousin in Ireland with Multiple Sclerosis, and I’ve seen what a cruel disease it can be.  So for the last 3 years I’ve walked 5 miles in Cohasset each April to raise money for the National MS Society.  I admire the ones who convince their friends and relatives to get together to walk as a team, as opposed to just writing a check.   I got donations in the mail from as far away as Minnesota and Colorado, and raised over $500.  You can find out more at http:www.nationalmssociety.org

Emily Marie

I am an uncle again.  I dog-sat for my sister while she was in the hospital in December.  Emily’s middle name occured to me while Scout and I were watching ’Goodfellas’ on DVD – Henry Hill’s wife mentions that all the Italian girls in Paulie’s circle seem to be named Marie  emily-c.jpg

World Series Champs

World Series TrophyCongrats to the Boston Red Sox for winning their 2nd title in 4 years.  I like how so many players that were little-known in April came through big in October, like Hideki Okajima (7 up and 7 down in Game 2 against Colorado); I saw Okajima bow  to the fans from the Duck Boat during the parade.  My cousin lived in Denver in 2004, and was good enough to get us tickets to see the Sox when they visited Coors Field, where ’New York, New York’ was played over the loudspeakers.  My cousin complained to the Rockies’ p.r. people that annoying Boston fans who had come a long way to spend their tourist dollars was uncalled for.  I wonder if they took his advice this time?

CA Wildfires

With my mother and aunt San Fran April 2006My co-worker at Verizon summed up the 80F temps in Boston Monday as ‘heaven’.  I rolled my eyes and wondered if the poor people between San Diego & LA this week would describe such warm, dry weather in a similar manner.
